C. HOARE CO.

15/12/2010

Hoares Bank was founded in 1672 by Richard Hoare at the sign of the Golden Bottle in Cheapside, London.

In 1690 he moved the business to new premises in Fleet Street, still within the City of London.  He continued trading at the sign of the Golden Bottle (a gilded leather bottle which hung outside the shop).  Street numbering was unknown in those days and signs were used to distinguish one business from another.

C. Hoare & Co. is the sole survivor of the private deposit banks, which were established in the 17th and 18thcenturies.  As such it has a long and illustrious history, famous customers in the 19th century included Lord Byron; Jane Austen; Lord Palmerston and The Earl of Liverpool.

The bank has a magnificent collection of archives dating back several centuries, and TESS are proud to have been chosen as the supplier of display cases for this unique slice of banking history.

THE EDWARD JAMES FOUNDATION, WEST DEAN COLLEGE

13/12/2010

In 1964, Edward James conveyed his family mansion, art collection and Estate to The Edward James Foundation, a charitable educational trust. The creation of such a trust averted the fragmentation that death duties would have dictated and allowed the materialisation of Edwards vision: creating a community where the Estate supports a college dedicated to the arts and crafts. In 1971, Edward Jamess vision became a reality when the gates of his family Estate were opened under the auspices of West Dean College.

West Dean College now enjoys a worldwide reputation for the study of conservation, making and visual arts.  The college is also home to a world famous Salvador Dali Mae West lips sofa, for which they recently purchased a TESS Demountable Vista case to help preserve and display this iconic piece of furniture design.

TUDOR HOUSE MUSEUM, SOUTHAMPTON

10/12/2010

Tudor House Museum, scheduled to re-open in summer 2011, is arguably Southamptons most important historic building, encompassing over 500 years of history on one site. The impressive timber framed house was built at the end of the 15th century by Sir John Dawtrey.

Tudor House has undergone a £1.9million restoration scheme, which has been funded by the council, the Heritage Lottery Fund and English Heritage. The museum will become a welcoming and enjoyable visitor attraction with new facilities, displays and experiences which will tell the story of the house and the people who lived and worked there.

TESS Demountable is proud to have been chosen to supply new Evolution and PrismHD display cases for this important project.
