Grace Darling was the heroine of Victorian Britain. She was awarded the RNLI Silver Medal for Gallantry after risking her life in an open boat to help rescue the survivors of the wrecked SS Forfarshire in 1838. The Grace Darling Museum was established in 1938 to commemorate her life.
