Evolution

Evolution is a family of case modules which can be quickly and easily joined together to create larger showcases, while maintaining the security and sealing expected from a permanent showcase installation. You can assemble Evolution modules in an almost endless variety of configurations.

Each module is a stand-alone showcase with full height glass for maximum flexibility. Glass top elements and lighting top elements are completely interchangeable between modules of the same size.

Inside the case, you can mount exhibits on internal plinths or on fully-adjustable suspended rod shelving.

The possibilities are endless.

Technical information

Two types of Evolution

Introduced in 2003, Evolution-1 was complimented by the introduction of the Evolution-2 series in 2013. Evolution-2 incorporates all of the feedback from our customers and has visually pleasing aesthetics (face bonded glass and concealed power conduit) along with improved lighting, shelving and performance characteristics. E-2 is the default module now, but E-1 will continue to be produced for our existing customers for many years to come.

System sizes

We make Evolution in two standard module sizes: 700mm square x 2100mm high and 900mm square x 2100mm high. The height can be varied although all modules which are to be joined must of course be the same size.

Structural glass

We use 11.5mm thick laminated Optiwhite™ anti-bandit glass conforming to BS EN:356P4A. This is a high quality low-iron content 'white' glass which makes the objects you're displaying look much better as it doesn't have the green tint of standard glass. The glass also has the added benefit of filtering over 97% of UV radiation between the harmful wavelengths of 320 & 380 nanometres. All structural glass panels are the same size and are interchangeable between individual (same sized) case modules. As an option, all structural glass can be coated with the highly specialised SCHOTT Amiran® low-reflective treatment to further enhance the viewing experience. This treated glass is only 1% reflective compared to the 8% reflectivity of normal glass and offers an exceptionally clear view of the display objects.

System extrusions

The showcase structure comprises purpose designed aluminium extrusions, which are fully concealed behind the glass and colour coded to suit.

Lighting top element

Each lighting top element is fitted with a hinged, folded steel, powder coated lid which is ventilated and fitted with an internal stay and a high security lock from a different key suite to the case door locks. The lighting top element is totally interchangeable with the glass top element if required.

Lighting options

Each lighting top element can be fitted with either low energy consumption dimming LED lighting; or dimming fibre optic lighting incorporated in a recessed duct. The fibre optic light source is also available in an LED option if required. Please note that we need to know what type of lighting you would like when you order the case, as lighting types are not interchangeable. Other lighting options are available.

Environmental control

Each module base is equipped with a conditioning material reservoir beneath the internal base display board as standard. A fully remote drawer reservoir is available as an option if required. Both reservoir types are ventilated at the edges of the baseboard to allow free air circulation. A fully active climate control system can be located in a supporting plinth or an adjacent structure. A constant power supply is required for this option.

Access

Each module has a simple-to-use, full-height glass door with a fully-concealed dual-action hinge and hardened steel espagnolette closure mechanism.

Locking

Each door is equipped with a pair of extractable Abloy™ high security CL291 cartridge locks, suited to your requirements.

Glass top element

Each glass top element is fitted with 11.5mm thick laminated glass to the same specification as the structural glass.

Power supply

Each lighting top element requires an external power supply, so please tell us your voltage requirements when you order lighting top elements. Power may be supplied to the case from an overhead track, or from below through a fully concealed power transfer conduit kit. All connections use standard IEC plugs and sockets and no user wiring is needed.

Seals

Inert extruded silicone seals are fitted within a discreet protective aluminium edging. The seals are easily replaced if they become damaged, as they are not glued in place. Modules typically have an air exchange rate of 0.25 (or better) per 24 hours. 0.1 AER performance can also be achieved if required.

Shelving

Each module can be fitted with fully height-adjustable, stainless steel pendant rod shelving with 9.5mm thick Optiwhite™ glass shelves as standard.

Base display board

The standard base display board is manufactured from ZF-MDF, which is sealed with a water-based acrylic lacquer and wrapped in fabric from the Baumann Ultra range. Alternative panels and finishes are available.

Connecting modules

Individual modules can be joined together to form larger cases with no internal divisions. When modules are to be connected, a pair of connecting rails (for top & bottom) are required. Connecting rails are available in single, double and even triple width sizes.
